Today someone asked me how I feel about Governor Spitzer's affair. How I feel about Governor Spitzer's out of marriage relationship is immaterial. The Torah only concerns itself with how his wife feels about it and no one knows if maybe she knew or not and that is none of our business. Apparently they have chosen to keep that a private matter as Jewish law allows.
What I don't like are all of the personal attacks to his reputation and character by the press and democratic political analysts. And the dramatically different way this was handled by the press. What he is being accused of is a technical violation of a law involving a sex act, designed to go after organized crime. What he did not do is walk into a court room as a member of the bar and willfully with pre-meditated forethought commit perjury concerning a sex act.. Which is exactly what Mr. Hillary Clinton did and the only decries were republicans and the democratic machine stood by Mr. Hillary Clinton.
In the case of the high profile uppity Jewish Governor they abandoned him. Yes he had many enemies because he took on corporate fraud. Well apparently the Bush administration has chosen to make an example out of the man who prosecuted many of their friends.
What I find troubling about Michael Medved’s piece and the rest of the talking heads commentaries concerning the Jewish Governor, is how hard they all try to justify the crucifixion of a great Jewish American political leader. Politicians having sex affairs is not news. Unless it is a Jew. Then it is news. The reasoning that he was a hypocrite because he prosecuted prostitution cases while visiting prostitutes. What would the people’s alternative be. If politicians and prosecutors, and even cops didn’t act politically against organized crime and prostitution just because they were having sex with prostitutes then nothing would get done. Nothing would get done because 1 in 5 cops have sex with prostitutes. Politicians have sex with prostitutes, prosecutors have sex with prostitutes. Instead of looking at the great job the Jewish Governor has done for America with his aggressive prosecution of wall street fraud and saying it was really sad to see him fall like this. The media used his stellar prosecutorial record as a justification for him being publically crucified.
How easy it is to hit he Jewish target. But would they dare do this to Obama, or any major black leader. Of course not. The media would be decried for the racists they are. So why did the media and democratic leaders feel so safe in displaying this kind of distain for a Jewish leader in America? We they get the same data the ADL and JDL gets. There are 35 million Americans who now hold clearly anti-Semitic ideas towards Jews. You see the media knew they could get away with it. But Geraldine Ferraro was fried for a off hand comment about an African American leader.
Maybe now the Jewish Community will take note of the reality that they have no political friends in America. And we apparently have no friends in the media either.
No Michael you just plain got it wrong. There is no difference between Craig and Spitzer with the exception that Spitzer is the uppity Jewish Governor. How dare we do our jobs to the best of our ability.
